This site is part of the free
tutorial "Researching
Your Revolutionary War Patriot Ancestor."
This site provides a free index to
over 17,000 online and offline pre-1830 Bible records. Use
the names and dates in the index to identify a Bible record of
interest. Do not use the information in the index for
genealogical purposes. In many cases, names (e.g.,
spouse's maiden name) and/or dates have been added to the index in order to clarify the
identity of the individuals.
Many of Revolutionary War
pension claims listed in the index contain original Bible
records. However, many claims were included in the index
as they contain other documents that refer to the soldier's children.
If you do not find a Bible record in a pension claim, review the
affidavits as they may list all the children or all the
surviving children. If the soldier provided a schedule of
his estate in 1820, look for a list of people in the household
as this list often provides the names and ages of everyone
living with the soldier. The
Revolutionary War pension files can be accessed at
Ancestry.com or
Fold3.
If you do not find what you are
looking for here, be sure to check the
DAR GRC Index.
The DAR GRC Index is an every-name index for a wide variety
records including thousands of family Bibles. To order a record from the DAR Library, the cost is $15.00 for nonmembers and $10.00 for members.
